The Utility Forum, active 2016-2023 brought all ten Canadian provincial transmission system operators together to discuss issues of shared importance specific to the planning and operation of Canadian electrical power systems with high penetrations of non-synchronous generation technologies, such as wind, solar, and battery-electric storage. The group determined the challenges and capabilities that such non-synchronous sources offer through tasks that are demonstrations or reviews. WEICan provided secretariat duties to the Utility Forum, which included supporting meeting planning, participating and contributing to research proposals, providing contract support for third parties, and supporting field demonstrations.
