Bo Cao, UNB: Wind Power Ramp Forecasting Using CNN-Based Similarity Search Techniques
Large wind power ramps caused by sudden weather changes and even extreme weather conditions raise more concerns due to their significantly impact on the power system economics and stability. Accurate wind power ramp forecasts can help the utility companies and wind farm operators to make decisions for the trade-off between the risks and returns when scheduling wind energy in the electricity market. In the presentation, an innovative wind power ramp prediction algorithm will be introduced that provides a day-ahead ramp event forecast using convolutional neural network (CNN)-based similarity search techniques.

The Wind Energy Institute of Canada advances the development of wind energy across Canada through research, testing, innovation and collaboration.
