Leidy Tatiana Contreras Montoya, UQAR: Correlations Between Meteorological and Power Loss in Wind Turbines Under Icing Conditions
This project explores the correlation between meteorological conditions, the operating regime, and wind turbines’ performances. Specifically, we determine the power loss under various icing conditions using dimensionless analysis and Deep Learning. The above will offer wind farm operators: first, the tools to predict the impact of icing conditions on production losses; second, recommend the best mitigation scenario; and third, a timely intervention for the deicing system’s operation, preventive stop of the wind turbine, or continuing “normal” operation. The aim is to maximize wind energy production during these events while protecting the wind turbine from excessive loads or safety hazards.

The Wind Energy Institute of Canada advances the development of wind energy across Canada through research, testing, innovation and collaboration.
