Rad Haghi, University of Victoria: Uncertainty Quantification (UQ) Derived Surrogate Models for Wind Turbine Simulations
In the wind turbine design phase, we need to take the uncertainty from the unsteadiness of wind into account in the aerodynamic simulations. In the common industrial practice and standards, researchers and engineers have taken uncertainty into account by running a few simulations per wind speed, using different random seeds per wind speed. As this number is small, the statistical representation of the output lacks convergence. In this research, we show with minimal extra effort, it is possible to build a surrogate model of the aerodynamic simulations of a wind turbine and efficiently quantify the uncertainty in the outputs driven by the wind input uncertainty.
