Franco Petrucci, Meteorological Service of Canada: Icing and Wind Forecasts for Wind Energy
At the Canadian Meteorological Centre, we have developed high resolution HRDPS forecasts of icing variables, every 10 metres in height and up to 300 meters, for 20 locations in the Gaspé peninsula and the Maritimes. We are also running 2.5 km resolution gridded forecasts over the same area, 4 times a day, with outputs every 3 minutes to better predict the onset and end of wind ramps. We will present icing and wind maps and time series of those forecasts using the Meteorological Service of Canada’s new GeoMet API for geospatial web services.

The Wind Energy Institute of Canada advances the development of wind energy across Canada through research, testing, innovation and collaboration.
